Whitney Stewart

Children’s Book Author, Mindfulness Expert, Professional Speaker

Traveling the world for books!

Whitney will travel far for a story. She’s been lucky enough to trek with Sir Edmund Hillary in Nepal and interview the Dalai Lama in India. Whitney has uncovered forgotten letters that illuminate history and has searched for research clues in former WWII battlefields in rural Poland. She is the author of multiple non-fiction books for children, including her most recent publications: Mindful Kids: 50 Mindfulness Activities for Kindness, Focus, and Calm (Barefoot Books, 2017); What’s on Your Plate? Exploring the World of Food (Sterling, 2018); and Mindful Me: Mindfulness and Meditation for Kids (Albert Whitman, 2018). When not writing or traveling, Whitney teaches mindfulness and meditation to children and adults.

What Whitney hopes readers gain through her work:

Whitney wants to inspire kids to take adventures, research history, explore the arts and sciences, talk to
experts, and to understand their own heart and mind.

Whitney’s background:

She graduated from Brown University with a degree in children’s literature and linguistics. Since then, Whitney has traveled throughout the world and lived overseas — in France, Germany, India, and Japan — where she studied new languages, explored life and culture, and relished the culinary variety. She has a passion for talking to kids about the world, and for teaching them how to handle stress and difficult emotions through mindfulness and meditation.
